Medication Administration Course 
This 4–6 week training is designed to provide caregivers, home support workers, and healthcare aides with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills needed to assist clients with medication safely and effectively. Whether working in home care, assisted living, or community health settings, this course equips learners with a deeper understanding of medication types, routes of administration, proper handling, and legal responsibilities.

This course emphasizes safety, accuracy, and accountability, ensuring that participants understand how to follow medication support plans, recognize when to report concerns, and maintain professional standards in caregiving environments. Participants will also learn to work under the supervision of licensed professionals when required and to contribute to a team-based approach in healthcare.

Admission Requirements:
✔ Minimum CLB English level 4 (to understand medical instructions, communication, and documentation)
✔ Canadian high school diploma or equivalent
✔ Valid First Aid & CPR Certificate (Required prior to or during the course – not included)

Course Overview:
✔ Introduction to Medication Administration – Legal responsibilities, ethical considerations, and the caregiver's role
✔ Types of Medications – Learn about over-the-counter, prescribed, and natural health products
✔ Routes of Administration – Oral, topical, inhaled, sublingual, eye/ear drops, and more
✔ Dosage & Measurement – Understanding units, measuring devices, and timing for safe delivery
✔ Medication "Rights" – The five (plus more) rights: right person, right drug, right dose, right route, right time, right documentation, etc.
✔ Monitoring & Reporting – Recognize common side effects, allergic reactions, and adverse events; know when and how to report
✔ Medication Storage & Handling – Proper practices to ensure safety and effectiveness
✔ Documentation & Communication – Recording medication assistance and communicating with supervisors or healthcare professionals
✔ Hands-On Practice – In-person sessions to simulate real caregiving scenarios, guided by an experienced instructor
✔ Theory Access – Course content and self-paced modules are delivered through Teachable

Course Structure:
Duration: 4–6 weeks (must be completed within 2 months)
Theory Modules: Available 24/7 on Teachable
In-person sessions: Hands-on training and practice scheduled with the instructor
Assessments:

  • Knowledge checks and quizzes throughout the course

  • Final written exam and practical evaluation (minimum 75% required for certification)

Certification & Opportunities:
✔ Completion Certificate Provided (This is not a licensed nursing or pharmacy program)
✔ Enhances employability in:

  • Home care services and private caregiving

  • Assisted living facilities and group homes

  • Community health programs and supportive housing

Course Fee: $500 (Includes tuition, course materials, and electronic certificate)

  • This course is intended for non-clinical support staff and does not qualify participants to administer injections or controlled substances

  • It may support employment and immigration pathways, but we do not guarantee eligibility for licensing or immigration programs
