
Patient Hoist & Lifting Tools Training (3 Days)
This 3-day, hands-on training provides essential skills for safe and effective patient transfers using hoists, slings, and other lifting tools. Designed for caregivers, home support workers, and personal support workers, this course emphasizes proper technique to prevent injury and improve client mobility and hygiene care.
Prerequisites:
✔ Completion of the PSW Refresher Course or Home Support Worker (HSW) Course
✔ Minimum CLB English level 4 (to understand instructions and safety protocols)
✔ Valid First Aid & CPR Certificate
✔ Access to a computer and internet is required for theory components and communication
Course Overview:
Participants will learn safe transfer techniques using lifting equipment in real-life care settings, including:
✔ Bed to Chair Transfers – Safely moving clients between beds and seating
✔ Bed to Toilet Transfers – Supporting hygiene and dignity during transitions
✔ Vehicle Transfers – Assisting clients in and out of vehicles safely
✔ Client Hygiene Assistance – Supporting bathing, dressing, and grooming tasks
✔ Injury Prevention & Ergonomics – Reducing strain and practicing proper body mechanics
✔ Types of Hoists & Slings – Identifying and operating different lifting tools
✔ Hands-On Practice – Supervised training using a range of lifting equipment
