Dementia Care
This 4–8 week foundational training is designed for individuals who want to provide compassionate and informed care to adults living with dementia. Ideal for caregivers, home support workers, and healthcare aides, the course focuses on person-centered strategies that improve the quality of life for individuals affected by cognitive decline.
Admission Requirements:
✔ Minimum CLB English level 4
✔ Canadian high school diploma or equivalent
✔ Valid First Aid & CPR Certificate (Required prior to or during the course)
Course Overview:
✔ Understanding Dementia – Learn about common types (including Alzheimer’s), stages, and symptoms
✔ Person-Centered Care – Respectful care techniques that support dignity and independence
✔ Communication Strategies – Tools to interact calmly and effectively at every stage
✔ Behavioural Support – Managing agitation, confusion, or resistance with empathy
✔ Safety & Daily Care – Support with bathing, grooming, nutrition, and mobility
✔ Family Involvement – Collaborating with families and loved ones in care planning
✔ Hands-On Learning – In-person training with guided role play practice
✔ Theory Access – Core content delivered through Teachable for flexible self-paced study
Course Structure:
Duration: 4–8 weeks (must be completed within 2 months)
Theory Modules: Available 24/7 on Teachable
In-person sessions: Scheduled with instructor
